Kashmiri political activist Sayyid Karar Hashemi called for the lifting of the ban on the establishment of mourning ceremonies in the month of Muharram in Kashmir.

In a statement, Hashemi said that the ban of these ceremonies in the month of Muharram is a violation of the Shia religious rights in Kashmir under the pretext of applying the law, explaining that these councils have always been peaceful and are participated by all Muslim communities.

Hashemi also called on Kashmiri officials to release the detained Shia leaders and allow the mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in Muharram.
