Health minister: 40,000 cancer patients per year due to aggression and blockade

The Minister of Public Health and population, Doctor Taha Al-Mutawakel, has said on Tuesday that as much as 40,000 cases of tumours have been recorded each year in Yemen since the war started.

 

 

The Minister of Public Health and population, Doctor Taha Al-Mutawakel, has said on Tuesday that as much as 40,000 cases of tumours have been recorded each year in Yemen since the war started.

“The Saudi-led coalition bombings is one of the most important reasons for the high incidence of tumours,” he said, reiterating the call for the lifting of the blockade of Sana’a airport and the rescue of thousands of patients.

“Over 20,000 people die every year from cancer-related tumours due to a lack of health services and lack of treatment as a result of the siege imposed by of the US-backed Saudi-led aggression on Yemen,” Taha Al-Mutawakel said during a press conference in Sana’a.

He noted that in the capital Sana’a alone, 25 to 35 cases of tumors are being recorded on a daily basis, which constitutes a catastrophic epidemiological situation.

The Minister renewed the call for the lifting of the blockade of Sana’a Airport, so that thousands of patients who are threatened with death due to the closure of the airport and their inability to travel for treatment abroad, could be saved.
