The Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, said that the holy Husseini rituals preserved the authentic Islamic religion from the policies of obliteration and distortion practiced by the enemies of the religion, indicating that the sacrifices made by Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, prevented these attempts and without them, religion would have been erased by the Umayyads and their followers.
In his annual speech on the painful day of Ashura, the Grand Ayatollah stressed on the necessity to revive the immortal Husseini rituals saying, “All the rituals of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, are holy, and Shias should not allow those who doubt them to demoralize their revival and establishment."
His Eminence added that "Doubting the Husseini rituals will never succeed, as their establishment is constantly increasing," indicating that "reviving the rituals and preserving their permanence means preserving the authentic Islamic religion from loss and distortion."
The Supreme Religious Authority cited the traditions of the Prophet that confirmed the greatness of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his cause in preserving the Islamic religion, most notably his blessed tradition, “Hussein is from me and I am from Hussein.”
His Eminence also pointed out that the Infallible Imams, peace be upon them, emphasized on the revival of the remembrance of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his calamity, and their words are the proof for us not to abandon the revival of the sacred Husseini rituals.
