Jordan’s Minister of Endowments, Abdel Nasser Abu Al-Basal, denied the entry of any tourists to the Site of Prophet Harun, peace be upon him, which has been closed since last Thursday after a video of Israeli tourists performing Jewish rituals there circulated media.

This came in a statement from the Jordanian minister, by telephone from Saudi Arabia.

The Prophet’s Site is located in the southern province of Petra and has been closed since the decision was made to close it.

Local media reported attempts by the Israeli Embassy in Jordan to facilitate the entry of Israeli tourists to it. In addition to the closure, the Jordanian minister’s decision to hand over the Site’s keys to the Governorate administration was denied.

The minister said in a statement that the decision came in the wake of the illegal entry of tourists to the Site without informing the ministry.”

The ministry denounced what happened inside the Site of Prophet Harun, stressing its strong rejection of such unacceptable behavior, and that it will open an investigation into what happened, and hold those who allowed them to enter accountable. 

Local news websites circulated a video showing about 500 Israeli tourists performing Jewish rituals in the area.
