Malaysia’s 61st international Quran competition officially started in a ceremony on Monday evening in Kuala Lumpur.

According media, before the opening ceremony, the contenders took a preliminary exam and then a draw will be held to decide each participant’s turn and what parts of the Quran they will recite.

The contest was held in two categories of Quran recitation and memorization for men and women.

Malaysia’s Quranic event is world’s oldest international Quran competition.

It is officially named the “International Al Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly”.

Last year, it was held with the participation of Quran reciters and memorizers from 56 countries.

There were a total of 53 Qaris and 25 Quran memorizers competing in the two sections (for men and women).
