Health of Hassan Mushaima, Hajer Mansoor Hassan deteriorated

The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) is reporting that the health of two Bahraini Shia activists deteriorated as a result of their lack of access to medical treatment.

According to the rights group, Bahraini prison authorities have “failed to arrange hospital appointments or provide test results” to both Hassan Mushaima and Hajer Mansoor Hassan.

The 71-year-old Mushaima is a cancer survivor and suffers from multiple health conditions including diabetes.

BIRD claims that up to ten of his doctor’s appointments have been cancelled because he refused to wear “humiliating shackles”.

He is yet to receive the results of a PET scan he underwent back in August 2018 or be allowed to see a specialist for his diabetes and ongoing issues with his prostate.

He is given his medication only sporadically and currently suffers from an ear infection.

Meanwhile, Hassan, who the UN says was jailed to curb the activism of her son-in-law, exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed AlWadaei, was recently diagnosed with kidney stones and uterine fibroids.
