It is to facilitate the traffic of mourning pilgrims who perform Husseini rituals of self-flagellation and the ritual known as “Rekdhet Twereej,” which is a large number of mourning pilgrims run from the outskirts of Karbala into Imam Hussein and then into al-Abbas Shrine; it is to express that if these people had been at the time when Imam Hussein, his family, and his companions had been surrounded by the tyrannical army, they would have run to rescue them and sacrifice themselves for them.

Millions of pilgrims perform this ritual on the tenth of the month of Muharram every single year.
